The Tower of Return:
A Global Symbol of Remembrance, Restoration, and Return.

A place where descendants, communities, leaders, and nations can reflect on the past while building a more connected future.

In light of the United Nations March 2026 resolution recognizing the trafficking of Africans and the Transatlantic Slave Trade as the gravest crime against humanity, the traditional leadership of Cape Coast has announced the Tower of Return Memorial Initiative in partnership with African Roots Worldwide.

The Tower of Return is envisioned as a global symbol of remembrance, reconciliation, resilience, and collective responsibility.

Located near one of the most significant departure points of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the initiative seeks to create a place where descendants, communities, leaders, and nations can reflect on the past while building a more connected future.

The Tower of Return serves not only as a memorial, but as a living symbol of restoration, belonging, and renewed relationships between Africa and the Global African Diaspora.

  • Remembrance

Honoring the lives, lineages, and legacies disrupted by the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

  • Reconciliation

A place for nations, institutions, and communities to convene around responsibility and repair.

  • Restoration

Programs, fellowships, and convenings that translate symbolic return into operational reconnection.

  • Collective Responsibility

A shared global stewardship between Africa and the diaspora.
